Before I get to today’s post, which is mainly of a video of how to add links to your blog posts, which I made using a free screen recorder called Camstudio, I have to announce the two winners of the paranormal giveaway that ran on my blog from November 1st to the 22nd. The lucky commenter who also tweeted about it is (drumroll, please…) Diana Marinova! She has already received her copy of Donna Jean McDunn’s Nightmares. The winner of Donna’s giveaway is Sherri Matthews. Congratulations, winners, and a big “thank-you” to all who participated!
FYI, my blog is currently running another giveaway (update: this is now closed) but the type of book being awarded to the winner is, admittedly, not to everyone’s liking since it is a male/male erotic romance. If you want to read a good story about the love between two people and perseverance in the face of adversity, then Memory’s Prisoner is the book you should read. I’ve read it, and have already posted this review to Goodreads:
Although Memory’s Prisoner falls under the genre of male erotic romance, the story the author tells is one of perseverance. When an unfortunate incident renders both of the main characters helpless and in the hospital (one in a coma), the plot thickens, and this tale takes on an air of suspense. It is interesting to see how the lives (and health) of the characters are changed forever. Without giving away the ending, I will say that I think that this book is one that may earmark a new future for the writer.
Now, let’s get down to business, shall we?
Remember when you were a new blogger?
Do you recall some of the struggles you had?
Were you ever intimidated by other bloggers? Did you constantly compare yourself to them?
Did you love, love, love getting nominated for your first award? Did you go into a panic because you didn’t know what to do? Or are you still a new blogger with questions?
What were some of the problems that you had? I’d love to know – because many new bloggers are landing on my blog to read about the Liebster Award. I get new visitors daily, and I want to be able to help them. Only eleven months ago, I was a newbie myself.
While I have only been blogging for eleven months, I have made huge strides in my blogging career. I’ve hit the number one spot in Google search quite a few times, and not all of them were by fluke! I actually set out to rank high with my Liebster acceptance, but the fact that the fourth post I ever wrote, on how to deal with the VisualBee toolbar, ranked high was sheer flukery at its best! (I know flukery is not a word. Shh. Don’t you know we live in a world where we can make up words and blog awards?)
Get to the video already!
Many new bloggers suffer from overwhelm, especially when they find out that there are rules to accepting a blogging award. To help you learn how you can add links to your blog posts, I’ve prepared a video tutorial for you to watch. It’s not that complicated, but it can be a daunting task for many newbies! I’ll also show you a couple of my blogging/publishing tips that ARE included in my ebook, 20 Blog Post Must-Haves, as well as my secret shortcut for informing bloggers that they have nominated for an award!
FYI, my Poetry Perfected blog just accepted its first Liebster award! It was nominated legitimately, too! (My prior nominations were ignored since they were both from Lorraine Reguly’s Life…which is me!)
So, without further adieu, here is the fabulous video I made. I’ve added a few captions to it, to highlight the really important parts. I know that you “pro” bloggers out there won’t watch the whole thing (unless you love the sound of my voice) but I do expect the newcomers to watch and learn from it! You may also want to display your images in your sidebar, and I’ve created a video tutorial to help you do this, too.
Feel free to send praise and gushy compliments to me in the comment section. 😉 (Kidding. Sort of.) 😉
Just found your blog and want to Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your videos and the help they have given me. (Gushy compliments LOL). seriously, I do thank you so much. This newbie blogger is thankful for the help.
Becky, it’s always nice to hear that I’ve helped someone. 🙂
Glad you liked the video. I’ve since learned how to use some screen recording software, but the video in this post was the best I could do at that time. So happy you found my tips useful!
Thank you so much for posting this! It is so helpful! I am new to blogging and was a little clueless about what to do after being nominated for an award, but now I don’t feel lost! 🙂
Hanna, I am always happy to help. I know being a newbie blogger is overwhelming. 🙂
Thanks for this post Lorraine. I’ve just forwarded it on to another blogger this afternoon. Very helpful material.
What a nice gesture. I like people who are helpful. 🙂 Getting the hang of blogging is so hard at first because there is so much to learn and remember. Are you a member of LinkedIn’s group, Bloggers Helping Bloggers? If not, you should be! 🙂
Season’s greetings!
I’m not a member of LinkedIn at all I’m afraid. But your post is very helpful to new bloggers I think. Once again thank you so much for creating such an easy to follow post.
You’re welcome!
Hey Lorraine,
First off congratulations to your winners and I’m sure they’re pretty stoked to be your recipients. Who doesn’t love winning stuff right!
Great video by the way and you should do more of those. Yeah, new bloggers always have questions so to be able to help them learn is not only a great feeling for us but they sure do appreciate the help. Wonderful job.
Have a great week.
~Adrienne
Thanks for the kind compliment, Adrienne. I will think about making more of these. 🙂 Have a great week yourself!
This is great tips, I am backed up on my blog award acceptances. I have probably 15 or so…I don’t think I ‘ll be writing acceptance posts anytime soon, so I thank the person who nominate me but I don’t make the acceptance posts. I feel bad, but I’m so busy…
Hey, girl, how’ve ya been?
Thanks for the visit. I see you’re making your rounds. 🙂
Yeah, just saw you on Becc’s blog. 😉 That’s why I said that!
I feel like she does but am not leaving for my “stacation” yet!
Yep, I’ve been out of commission with NaNoWriMo and book release, but I’m back, and then a cold hit me on Saturday! So I spent all day in bed yesterday and I’m home today too. I definitely need to go away…some place warm like Florida
I want to go to Saint Maarten. I’m sorry to hear about your cold, and wish you well.

Dear Lorraine’s readers,
This is a nifty video – kind of evergreen stuff that people will always need even if it seems easy.
Turkey coma stopped me from writing more of “my story” here today, so I’ll share with you all soon!
Happy Black Friday (don’t blow too much moola if any)
Greg
Thanks for the compliment, Greg! 😀
Nicely done. It’s so nice to see you share what you’ve learned along the way. It really does help newbies to get there faster. 🙂
I think I might start a series of videos for newbies, now that I can make videos! 😀 I spent a lot of time figuring things out on my own, so it gives me pleasure to help others save some time and anguish and simply show them how it’s done!
