Today is Friday the 13th. It’s the first one of this year!
In this post, I’ll talk about 3 things: why I love the number 13, why people fear this number, and other phobias, including blogophobia!
Why I Love The Number 13
First of all, I love the number 13. I think it’s much luckier than the number 7.
My Nana Kay was born on January 13.
My grandfather was born in 1913.
I moved back to my hometown on Friday the 13th.
This number has popped up in my life over and over throughout the years, and I have come to love it.
One of my friends was also born on January 13.
I am not really superstitious, and so I don’t have any reason to fear this number. However, I have had a weird experience on one of these famed Fridays.
When I was living with one of my exes, our fridge stopped working one Friday. Yes, it was on a Friday the 13th. I don’t know why, or what happened, exactly, but a few hours later it began working again, and worked just fine from that moment on. It was very weird, indeed.
I have also had experiences with the number 23, but those are stories for another day! (My other grandma was born on April 23rd, Shakespeare’s birth- and death-day!)
13/13/13
My Nana Kay is no longer with us, but her next birthday would be 13/13/13, if such a day were to exist. If December is the 12th month, it would stand to reason that the 13th month could be January, and so, following this reasoning, January 13, 2014 would be 13/13/13. At 13 seconds after 1:13 pm on this day, using military time, it would be 13:13:13 on 13/13/13.
Yes, I am getting carried away here, but I am looking forward to that moment!
Have you ever had strange things happen on Friday the 13th? Share your stories in the comment section, please!
Triskaidekaphobia
Are you superstitious? Do you have triskaidekaphobia? This is an abnormal fear of the number 13.
If you do, but don’t know why, you might be interested in reading some of the reasons people fear the number thirteen. Composer Arnold Schoenberg died due to his fear, when he was 76 (note that adding seven to six will yield a sum of thirteen). Have you ever wondered what floor the fourteenth floor of many hotels and other building really is? 😉 Yup, you guessed it… the thirteenth!
When Fear of No. 13 Hits , these people suggest throwing a party to treat it! They also assert that people who fear the number 13 face a troubling year. After all, it is 2013!

Other phobias
So many other phobias exist that the list of such phobias is too long to include here. You can see the top 100 phobias and/or the A to Z List of Phobias. Of course, these are not complete lists; blogophobia is not on them!
What phobias do you have? What are you scared of? Anything?
Freaky Friday
There was a movie made called Freaky Friday, starring actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Here is the trailer for this movie. I saw the whole movie, and it was pretty good!
I love Freaky Friday stories, and am hoping you’ll share some of yours in the comment section!
We’re having another Friday the Thirteenth in December. Next year, in 2014, the only Friday The 13th is in June.
In 2015, there will be more…
So, do you love or fear the number 13? Are you superstitious? Do you have a weird experience to share? What did this post make you remember?

Hello Lorraine,
It is so nice to meet you… I have just read your comment to me on Christy´s Blog and came here to take a peek,…
I love numbers,
I do believe that there is a sort of numerical pattern hidden in nature, don´t you agree? .
I am adding this link for a further analysis, regarding number 13:

Cheers & have a great sunday!
Aquileana 😉
Yes, I love numbers, too, and agree that many numerical patterns are found throughout nature, dating back to thousands of years ago. The golden ratio is one example.
Thanks for stopping by! I have a poetry blog, too, but I’m not sure you’ve seen it. It’s at http://poetryperfected.wordpress.com/about/ and I would LOVE a visit from you!!!
You have a gift for analyzing poetry, which is kinda what my book is about…(my book is not yet available) and I like analytic minds who can appreciate the beauty and mystery within a set of specific words.
I really do hope you pay my little blog a visit. 😉
I’m not superstitious, but my grandpa was. He never drove anywhere on the Friday the 13th, and he was a man who lived to make excuses to drive places.
Wow. He was really superstitious! 🙂
Your nana Kay and I share a birthday. My husband is also January 13th so I have no problem with the number 13. Quite the contrary, like you I love it. It’s the number I put on my soccer jersey and my soccer team has been nothing but a source of joy. Yay #13!
January 13th is sure a popular day! How did you manage to find a guy that shares your birthday?
Good luck, of course! 🙂
Yes, it must have been good luck to meet someone with the same birthday, and then fall in love. Some of us are sooo lucky! 🙂 Good for you, Debra!
Hi Lorraine! No! I’m not superstitious at all. Never have, and never will. Thank God, I clink to him. Blessings.
It’s good to hear you’re not superstitious. Then again, if you were, you probably wouldn’t have commented – especially if you suffer from
triskadtriskedekfear of the number thirteen. 😉No. You asked a question, and I answered. The number thirteen is just a number that comes after twelve, and before fourteen. Blessings. :-))
Okay, Johnny, point made!
Yes, I’m superstitious, although not with the number, 13. My superstitions have more to do with how to handle situations so that they turn out the way I want them. I guess I am a lot like jet pilots are who need to carry around their good luck charm. The only difference is that with me it isn’t an object; it’s what I do or don’t do.
Well, I hope you are doing all the right things! 🙂
I’m not superstitious at all. I’m glad I’m not. Last year on Friday, April 13, 2012 I had major surgery for a twenty pound ovarian tumor. The blood test came back high for the cancer marker ca-125, but they assured me inflammation can also cause that. It was a very scary time and when they told me they could get me in for the surgery on Friday the 13th, I wasn’t about to argue. It was not cancer. Lucky me!
Thank goodness you’re okay now. Surgery is always tough to undergo. I’ve had a few already, some major and some minor. One of the major ones was my appendix, and two others were on my leg. I’ve yet to write about them, but I will, soon..
I’m so happy it wasn’t cancer. Cancer sucks.
You are definitely fortunate, Donna! Thank your 13 lucky stars! 🙂
My Dad was born on September 13th. We loved him and he gave us a good life. We were the lucky ones.
Oh, so today would have been his birthday!
I bet you miss him a lot…
I’m glad he was so good to you and your siblings, Jo Ann!
I don’t love or fear the number 13; I’m neutral. I’ve had some weird experiences, but not on Friday 13th. This post made me think of the year I was 13; the worst year of my life and something I’m not willing to share at this point.
The fact that you’ve shared this much is great, Debra.
I’m sorry I made you recall something bad… 🙁 I won’t push the issue by asking why it was the worst year, even though I’m dying to know…
I hope you have a great day, and that your wounds heal, somehow.
Here is a something to make you feel better: (((A BIG HUG)))
Thanks for the HUG and the understanding. 🙂
You’re welcome! Recalling terrible memories is tough. Writing about them is even harder. I think that’s why my book is stagnating… Funny, though; writing is supposed to be cathartic!
I encountered repeats of 13 recently although I am not superstitious but if given a choice I would not choose the number 13 on any occasion. 🙂
If you are not superstitious, why wouldn’t you choose the number 13?
