The 10 Best Editing Tools For Writers
This time-tracker integrates with your email or Google Docs and is useful for writers who work with various clients. It’s tough to keep it all organized. Use Toggl to outline priorities, track work time (on and offline) and export timesheets.

Scrivener was originally created to assist with long manuscripts, but is also praised by web writers. The first-rate tool lets the user organize with folders, labels and statuses and has an automatic back up to Dropbox.
Essaymama.com is an online agency and invaluable source for students and professionals. Their team consists of PhD holders in various fields of study and is accompanied by a truly inspirational blog
Even the finest writers and/or educators have to deal with plagiarism issues. Plagtracker.com is a comprehensible service of qualified professionals. They perform an in-depth scan of any essay to ensure no plagiarized content is ever submitted.
Evernote is one of the most popular apps available. It offers transcription abilities and its own “ask a professional” feature, but its aptitude to compile research from several sources (online articles, personal notes, photos, videos and audio files) is its unique quality.
ProWritingAid.com provides guidance in general readability and removing errors. Available for use with Microsoft Word, Google Docs and API, the free version of the tool is accommodating for individuals, offering plagiarism scans and a blog full of encouragement.
The free app is unpretentious and allows the user to capture text notes (automatically updated on all devices) and to tag and search them for convenience. It permits sharing of lists and ideas and is best used on the go. (It also pairs nicely with Scrivener).
GoodNotes is awesome for writers who still feel most comfortable with pen and paper. They call it “Digital Ink” and it saves handwritten notes on your devices, allows you to mark directly on pdf files and syncs directly to your iCloud.
Write.app is a personal online notebook that provides a protected, distraction-free atmosphere. It come with theming options, publishing capabilities and encrypts all documents (on and offline) for double security.
Ilys.com is a brilliant creativity tool. It first requires a word count and does not allow editing until the given word count has been achieved. This can force a writer to change the way they think, thus enhancing the creative process.

10 Awesome Editing Tips For Writers
Language and culture are constantly evolving, and with them so is the skill of writing. There will always be fresh knowledge and ways to improve. Even when using outside tools, the writing process begins with you. Use these 10 tips to push your writing and editing talents to the next level.
- READ MORE. Read every single day. Writing and reading cannot exist without the other. You will become inspired and less likely to make mistakes.
- KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. Understand whom you are writing for or with whom you are connecting. Realize how to use your voice.
- DO YOUR RESEARCH. Write what you know. And if you don’t know, research. The more information you have, the better your writing will be.
- CREATE A RITUAL. Set the tone and build your writing atmosphere. Maybe it’s coffee houses, bars, or classical music. Do what works for you and escape the world.
- KNOW THAT ONLINE WRITING IS DIFFERENT. If writing for the web, understand how to structure your writing accordingly.
- ASK FOR HELP. Share your writing and collaborate. Trusted professionals and peers are best, but any set of fresh eyes can be a valued resource.
- CUT THE CRAP. Force yourself to remove run-on sentences and repetitive information. It can be challenging, so take control of your own content.
- HAVE A NOTE-TAKING SYSTEM. Jotting ideas down habitually is one of the best things you can do. A system will help you to remember thoughts and organize your brain.
- PAY ATTENTION TO MISTAKES. Most writers tend to repeat the same errors. If you are able to acknowledge your mishaps, then you can begin to avoid them.

Tracking your time is definitely important in this regard. I use TimeSheet Reporter for this, since I use Outlook and it allows me to track time based on my appointments, which makes it really easy for me.
